Who are you? Where are you from?
I’m F. Carpé. I’m a 27 year-old Rapper/Actor/Producer from Oakland, Ca. I absolutely love reintroducing the songs that I know and love to another generation. Hip-Hop is my way of expressing the things that I can’t always articulate. It’s poetry for the soul.
I love your sound. Who makes your beats?
I make most of the beats. Whenever I rap on other tracks, I’ll usually try to remix it in some way in order to make it more of my own. I also do the mastering. Although I don’t consider myself an audio engineer, I dabble in the arts.
What do you feel makes you stand out musically?
I feel that being able to produce my own tracks helps me stand out. Not only is it a verse that you never heard before but also a fresh beat. It really adds something when you have the producer, the rapper, and the audio engineer in the same room. It’s a lot easier to make changes and convey your original meaning during a punch line or metaphor.
How long have you been in the music business and who are your influences?
I’ve been rapping for 5 years and producing for about 4. Some of my influences are Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, J. Dilla, Timbaland, Common, Lupe Fiasco, The Beatles, 2 Pac, Kid Cudi, Cassidy, Jay-Z, Pink Floyd & Eminem.
Is music a hobby, career or a way of life for you?
Music is my everything. I literally can’t stop. I usually have to force myself to take a day off or get out and do something social.
What’s next for you?
I’m working on building my fan-base and learning more about the music business. I eventually want to be signed to a major record label and hopefully be mentored by the producer greats so that I can take my music to the next level. I really push myself to be as good as the professionals, so that I can be in a position to move my career forward.
What’s the best way to show support?
Let everyone know about me through word of mouth and social media. Also your tip jar contributions really help out. I would suggest something small like a $5 a month pledge, but any and all donations are much appreciated. The money helps with cd costs, upgrades, as well as replacement equipment. Tell all your rich friends!
